Dishonored 2.

Earlier today Bethesda and Arkane Studio’s announced that Dishonored 2 is going to be released in 2016. They made the announcement at Bethesda’s first ever E3 press conference and Dishonored 2 features Emily Kaldwin the rightful heir to the throne of the first installment of game. In the trailer we see Emily moving from building to another very quickly using some sort of grappling hook and Bethesda revealed that you can play the game as Emily or the much loved Corvo, the hero of the first game.

In addition to revealing the game’s E3 trailer, Bethesda went on to say

Dishonored 2 is set 15 years after the Lord Regent has been vanquished and the dreaded Rat Plague has passed into history. An otherworldly usurper has seized the throne from Empress Emily Kaldwin, leaving the fate of the Isles hanging in the balance. As either Emily Kaldwin or Corvo Attano, travel beyond the legendary streets of Dunwall to Karnaca – a once-dazzling coastal city that holds the key to restoring Emily to power. Armed with the mark of the Outsider and powerful new supernatural abilities, hunt down your enemies and forever alter the fate of the Empire”.

That’s not the only thing Bethesda and Arkane Studio’s revealed, they went on to announce that Dishonored Definitive Edition is coming to the PS4, Xbox One and on PC. It will feature enhanced graphics and all the DLC packs from the first game. Dishonored Definitive Edition is set to be released this coming August and here’s the Dishonored 2 trailer.

Review: Dishonored

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Idiot’s Guide To Gaming. Today we are reviewing my favourite game at the moment Dishonored.  Dishonored is set plague filled city of Duwall and you take on role of Corvo, the empress’s bodyguard and you are falsely accused of murdering the empress.

While sitting in your jail cell you get a note that helps you escape and discover that there are a group of loyalists that want to help you clear your name and find the empresses daughter Emily who was kidnapped when her mother was murdered.  After escaping you meet up with Samuel and he takes you to meet up the loyalists lead by Admiral Havelock.

While sleeping you get visit from the Outsider who gives his mark and enables you to have powers. Now this is where the fun begins and you make your way around the different parts of Dunwall eliminating those who conspired against you and while looking for clues on Emily’s whereabouts.  Every action has a reaction in Dishonored, the games storyline has nasty twists throughout the game and just when you think that you have completed the game, the tables turn and you have to begin a new mission. That’s one of the reasons I enjoyed playing Dishonored, the storyline is unpredictable.

The games controls are a bit tricky to grasp in the beginning but once you get your head around them you’ll enjoy playing the game. You can either sneak your way around targets without being detected or confront your enemies head on. You will also need to choose yours powers wisely during assassinations and when on a mission, as you will require different powers for different situations. From blowing down doors with powerful wind, to possessing rats and fish so that your enemies do not detect your presence or so that you can make a quick gateway, powers play a huge role when it comes to completing missions.  I would advise you to look for runes and bone charms during missions and use them upgrade your powers. The games AI is pretty slick, if an enemy spots you at a certain point he will call for reinforcements and they will guard that area. This will require you to change your tactics and find another way of eliminating your targets.

The graphics are good and the city of Dunwall and its surrounding areas have spectacular views.  You will find yourself on top of roof tops, in alleys filled with rats and dead corpses or on a ledge looking for food and coins while trying to avoid your enemies. The sound of rats eating a dead corpse will send chills down your spine. Dishonored gets a 9 out of 10 from me, you will struggle with the controls during fights but once you figure them out you will be unstoppable. Dishonored is available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
